What To Do With a Destroyed Gut

by | May 8, 2023 | Emotional Pillar, Environmental Pillar, Nutritional Pillar

Known in our world as the second brain, or… oftentimes, the brain that genuinely guides you, your gut is a powerful system that filters out toxins while maintaining a delicate microbiome that supports your immune system and facilitates health and wellness.
From an emotional perspective, a healthy gut makes you feel safe and secure.
But many of our habits, food choices, and conventional protocols have a negative, cumulative impact on the gut and can create holes and breaks in the gut lining, hence the term leaky gut.
These damages can lead to bacteria, viruses, food, and other pathogens getting into the body and creating issues like acne, rashes, liver absorption problems, and other symptoms rooted in inflammation, like autoimmune issues.
Healing a damaged or “destroyed” gut can be a complex process, but it is absolutely possible. It takes dedication and commitment. Here are some holistic ways to support gut healing:

Identify and remove triggers: The first step in healing a damaged gut is to identify and remove the triggers that caused the damage in the first place. This may include food intolerances (get yours tested here), infections, stress, or exposure to environmental toxins. You will always go right by eliminating wheat completely. Read more about why HERE.

Follow a gut-healing diet: A gut-healing diet is rich in whole, nutrient-dense foods that are easy to digest and support gut health, which includes bone broth, fermented foods, healthy fats, and plenty of non-starchy vegetables.

Support digestion: Supporting healthy digestion is essential for gut healing. This may include taking digestive enzymes. Two of our favorites include Essentialzymes4 and Multizyme. You can also consume bitter herbs or teas, and avoid eating too quickly or too much.

Reduce inflammation: Inflammation is a common cause of gut damage, and reducing inflammation can help support gut healing. The two biggest culprits are sugar and estrogen-based medications, including Birth Control Pills. To help repair and counterbalance the inflammation, anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, ginger, omega-3 fatty acids, olive oils, and organic butter are used.

Manage stress: Chronic stress and trauma can negatively impact gut health, so managing stress is vital for gut healing. Practices like meditation, deep breathing, yoga, or simply getting out into nature and walking for 30 minutes do wonders!

Healing concussions: Within just a few minutes of a concussion, the gut is affected and can create a leaky gut situation. Complete elimination of sugar is vital to recovery! We have a Concussion protocol that breaks down what to do and what to be on the lookout for. If you have ever had a bump to the head, we highly recommend adding in EpiMatter.

Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep is crucial for overall gut health. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to support gut healing. If sleep is hard, eliminating wheat and sugar are your best first action steps, then add an incredible secret weapon like Sleepyzyme  into the diffuser and CBD calm before bed. If you would like a full protocol, check out our guide.
Tried all of that and still need more? Consider gut-repairing supplements like ProSynbiotic, Cataplex B GF,  and Zinc Chelate.
